Special Education Day
at the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum!

March 2, 2010 9:30am – 2:00pm

Many teachers have requested that we set aside a day just for special education classrooms to visit the Museum - SO WE DID! On March 2, 2010 ONLY special education classrooms can schedule field trips. We will limit the number of classrooms visiting on March 2nd so the Museum will not be too crowded. This will give you and your students plenty of space to explore and have fun! We ask that classrooms serving students with mild to moderate disabilities ages 3-8 years old plan to attend this day.

If your classroom has students with more severe disabilities please contact the Scheduler and she can suggest times when the Museum isn’t busy so your students will be able to enjoy the exhibits at their leisure.

While at the Museum students will experience the “NEW” Happy Animal Clinic exhibit. Your students can also enjoy the bubbles, spin table, funstruction and the many other exhibits we all love. There will also be a play dough room and there will be sensory pools available, too.

The Grand Rapids Children’s Museum has a Have A Heart Scholarship Fund to help classrooms with the cost of admission. Please ask the Scheduler about the Scholarship Fund when booking your field trip to see if your classroom qualifies.

Contact the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum at (616) 235-4726 X 103 and talk with the Scheduler to book a field trip for your classroom.

This is a SPECIAL DAY JUST FOR YOU! Please join in the FUN!

March 12, 2010

7pm-midnight

Kids at Heart is a night of fun with live music by An Dro*, an auction, food and beverages in the playful setting of the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum. Our Kids at Heart event is the most fun you’ll ever have at a non-profit FUNdraiser…AND your support is guaranteed to make a difference in the lives of children and families in West Michigan.

Since 2000, Kids at Heart has raised over $560,000 to benefit children in our community. The Grand Rapids Children’s Museum is committed to making our programs accessible to children and families throughout the region. Scholarships for school and community groups enable children from economically challenged areas to visit at no charge. Thursday Family Nights allow families to visit for a nominal fee. We host activities and events like Connor’s Friends for children and families affected by autism and Special Education Day for those with special needs.

*About An Dro: An Dro performs traditional acoustic music with a creative twist that defies easy categorization. The band's sound is built on a foundation of Celtic tunes, but while that's the starting point, it's not where the journey ends. You'll hear traditional Irish melodies, medieval French songs, Breton dance tunes, Scandinavian refrains, Appalachian influences, Latin rhythms, and African grooves, all injected with an improvisational flair that at times resembles a jam-band. This diverse range of musical styles is complemented by an equally diverse array of instruments.  Fiddle, guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, hurdy-gurdy, harp, doumbek, and talking drum are just part of the arsenal used to create the band's unique sound palette.  The band also inserts vocal arrangements amidst its instrumental repertoire. The name An Dro refers to a folk dance from Brittany where the dancers link fingers as they move in a spiral.  It translates literally as "The Turn."  Similarly, the band An Dro is a musical turning point for it's members as they explore a new world of musical ideas.
