Discovery Field Trips

  • Discovery Field Trips are self-guided and allows the students and their chaperones to experience the museum at their own pace. Groups are greeted by a field trip facilitator and will provide a short overview of the current exhibits and other important information.
  • Total Museum visit is 90 minutes including 10 minutes of an overview and 10 minutes wrap-up.
  • Chaperones are required at minimum ratio of 1:5 elementary  and 1:3 pre-school students.
  • Chaperones are admitted free of  charge. (Additional chaperones over this minimum number will  be charged the reduced $3 cost.)
  • The cost is $3 per child. A minimum of $45 per group.
  • Field trips are scheduled Tuesday-Friday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. (Subject to availability)

Discovery Field Trip Scholarships

Two scholarship programs are available for Discovery Field Trips. These programs provide play opportunities for underserved populations in the Grand Rapids metro area and beyond. These scholarships give all children of West Michigan the opportunity to visit, learn and play at the Museum at no charge or for a minimal fee.

  • Bank of America Scholarship – The Bank of America Charitable Foundation provides scholarships to underserved students in the Grand Rapids area and beyond. Teachers must complete an application form by clicking the link below and downloading one form per classroom attending the Museum on a Discovery Field Trip.
  • Have a Heart Scholarship – Have a Heart Scholarships are available to underserved students in the Grand Rapids metro area. Teachers must complete an application form by clicking on the link below and downloading one form per classroom attending the Museum on a Discovery Field Trip.
